Take a peek at the latest thrillers, comedies, documentaries and TV shows coming out on DVD this July.
With films at the box office earning abysmal reviews this summer, people are turning to Netflix or their local video store for some better movie options. Here are the films out on DVD this July:
Coming out July 6, 2010
- A Single Man (Drama): Colin Firth delivered an Oscar-nominated performance as a man coping with the recent loss of his partner in 1962 Los Angeles. Julianne Moore co-stars in this darker film.
- Brooklyn’s Finest (Cop/Crime): This crime film flew under the radar at the box office but features a huge line-up of stars, including Richard Gere, Ethan Hawke, Don Cheadle and Wesley Snipes. The movie revolves around the lives of three New York police officers over the span of a week.
- The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Mystery/Thriller): This Swedish film, based on the popular book series by Stieg Larsson, revolves around a journalist who recruits the help of a young female hacker to solve a decades-old murder.
Coming Out July 13, 2010
- Chloe (Erotic Thriller): Julianne Moore plays a wealthy doctor who hires an escort (Amanda Seyfried) to seduce her husband (Liam Neeson), which leads to unpredictable and dangerous results.
- Greenberg (Dark Comedy): Ben Stiller plays the title character, who house-sits for his brother in Los Angeles while trying to sort out his dysfunctional life. Jennifer Jason Leigh co-stars.
- The Bounty Hunter (Romantic Comedy): Gerard Butler plays a bounty hunter who gets the chance to go after his ex-wife (Jennifer Aniston) when she jumps bail in this fluffy chick flick.
Coming out July 20, 2010
- Repo Men (Sci-Fi): Jude Law, Forest Whitaker, and Live Schreiber star in a sci-fi thriller about a frightening futuristic world in which “repo” men come for people’s organs if they lapse on their hospital bills.
- The Losers (Action): Avatar star, Zoe Saldana, stars alongside a mostly male cast of secret agents who find themselves hit-listed and on the run.
- The Most Dangerous Man in America (Documentary): This documentary tells the story of Daniel Ellsberg, who challenged the Nixon presidency when he snuck out Pentagon papers detailing the government’s lies about Vietnam.
- Cop Out (Action Comedy): This buddy film received a rather dismal reception despite Kevin Smith’s direction and a cast that included Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.
- The Runaways (Drama): Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning star in this film based on the real Runaways, Joan Jett and Cherie Currie, who formed one of the first girl rock bands in the 1970s.
Coming out July 27, 2010
- Clash of the Titans (Action/Epic): Although the movie was not well received on 3D screens, the film’s epic battles should transfer well to television sets. Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes and Sam Worthington star in this Greek tale of gods and warfare.
- Crash, Season 2 (TV Drama): The drama starred the late Dennis Hopper, along with a large ensemble cast, in a show based on the Oscar-winning film, Crash. The characters see their lives connect and intertwine as they go through their daily activities in Los Angeles.
